Whether hiking on the estate or exploring the National Forest beyond, there is no lack of hiking options.  If venturing beyond the borders of the ranch, Lincoln National Forest, offers 56 great hiking, trail running trails and more. And if you're looking for something a little easier, there are 35 moderate trails in Lincoln National Forest ranging from 1 to 19.3 miles and from 3,221 to 11,541 feet above sea level.

When was the last time you heard someone say: “I just killed it on the treadmill, and had such a blast!”?  Mountain biking, either on the property or on the numerous local trails, is an exhilarating and a leg-burning, lung-crushing, fun workout.  When you own Lonesome Pine, the fun is at your finger, or better, your bike peddle tips.

Ready for some camping?  All it takes is to step outside the front door and this is the epitome of backyard camping.  With no light pollution, the milky way is clear as day and the stars light the night sky.  You never have to leave the ranch.   If adventures warrant backpacking, just hike to the top of the ridge and enter the Lincoln National Forest to truly get away from it all.  If RV'ing is your lifestyle, the ranch comes complete with a covered pull through RV hook up complete with a separate 50 amp electrical hook-up to light your evening with modern conveniences.  

Several 4-wheel drive and ATV roads are available on property.  Easily access the house from the barn or make your way to the top of the ridge to sit under the Lonesome Pine itself on your way to the National Forest, all you need is a sense of adventure and 4 wheels to take you there.  If you want more adventure, several motorized trails are available in the area for greater thrills.  

On Lonesome Pine Estate, it's too simple to say wildlife is in an abundance.  Most notable and recognizable are the trophy-sized elk that make this ranch and the surrounding Lincoln National forest their home.  They even have to be shooed out of the yard!  Aside from elk, deer, wild turkey and hummingbirds which are too numerous to count, fox, bear and even the occasional mountain lion can be spotted with relative frequency.  Ranch permits can often be obtained for herd maintenance while valuable shed horns litter the property.  Whether hunting or watching is of interest, spotting wildlife on the Lonesome Pine ranch will create joy for all.  

Ski Apache is a ski resort in southern New Mexico, on the slopes of Sierra Blanca mountains. Runs in the resort include Apache Bowl, an intermediate run on the upper west side of the mountain known for its wide, open space, and views from the top of Chairlift 6; Capitan, a steep, challenging pitch that drops 475 feet; and the Gondola Liftline, a steep and narrow advanced run that runs from the top of the mountain to the main lodge. Another run is Snow Park, which is known for being one of the most difficult beginner runs in the world, steeper than some "blue" runs at the resort. Ski Apache has eight lifts including one gondola lift, three quad chairlifts, and four triple chairlifts. The resort receives an average annual snowfall of fifteen feet.

Hunting opportunities abound on the estate and the wildlife options are diverse.  Deer, wild turkeys and famed Unit 34 elk infest the property.  Because of their abundance, ranch, landowner permits are frequently offered.  Bear and mountain lions can also be found in the area.  South central New Mexico and especially Lincoln National Forest is home to some of the state's best elk hunting with units 34 & 36 leading the way. These two units have been consistent producers of quality bulls (300+) with truly giant bulls (370+) being taken out of both units every year.

Have a rod and reel ready and a desire to practice your casting skills?  Lonesome Pine is the property ready for you.  With a roughly 1/2 mile cascading stream that pools in honey-hole areas and a generous pond, this is mountain fishing at it's finest.  Both the pond and the stream are full of rainbow and brown trout.  Not interested in catching fish but observing their beauty naturally? Just head to the pond as the trout there welcome their daily feeding and swim to the surface for a quick greeting.
